What’s Wrong With This Advertisement?

It seems like motorcycles, pretty women, and advertisements all go hand in hand. It can be downright misleading for the untrained who would easily be led to believe that every woman riding a motorcycle is rocking a 36-24-36 body, if they trusted the advertisements. Companies are slowly understanding the role of women in their advertisements can either make or break a campaign. Very slowly indeed.

I once wrote a post about  Sleazy Motorcycle Ads which looked at marketing material from a handful of companies, and their depictions of women. In my opinion only one advertisement really shined:

Yuasa Battery Advertisement

To some Nina’s the cute girl next door on her motorcycle who doesn’t need sexual undertones to deliver a message. To the ATGATT freaks, Nina is sheer scum and will burn in hell for posing on a motorcycle helmetless. We all know what part of the human body opinions are most like.

When it comes to marketing and motorcycles, I thought trying to use sex to sell was my only pet peeve. I found a new one. Take a look at this and let me know in the comments… What’s Wrong With This Advertisement?

  1. Are you kidding? Let me count the ways:

    1. She forgot her helmet and gloves
    2. She’s riding BACKWARDS… and NO HANDS
    3. She failed to raise her side stand
    4. Her boots don’t cover the ankle
    5. Her purse isn’t safely stowed in her saddlebag
    6. Should really have that hair tied up… to prevent wind-whipping
    7. Doesn’t have her jacket done up
    8. Needs to SMILE! Come on, girl!

  2. I think that you should lighten up. The girl without a helmet is sitting still and the young lady in the Nieman Marcus ad is using the generic V-Twin as a chair. It might all be reprehensible if they were moving dressed like that or draped over the bikes in a leather bikini. Politically correct is one thing, uptight is another.

    • I wasn’t really concerned with how she was dressed, or anything to do with gear… Check out her foot a little more closely.

    • Or…..I give up. Is it that she has TWO right feet? Or that she’s got two different-colored socks on? Wait a minute…she’s not wearing ANY socks!! Is that it? (I haven’t flunked a test this badly since my shrink gave me the Rorschach after my “incident” last year!)

    • Oh…thank God! I’m OK to be let out in public again. (Although, my understanding is that in all such photoshoots, the talent handler…for the MOTORCYCLE, that is….makes sure there’s an appropriately sized piece of ‘mole-skin’ discretely positioned between any body-parts and any MACHINE parts…so as not to sully the equipment.)

  3. I think you’re nit-picking… there’s so many things wrong with the fashion industry and advertising, her foot placement doesn’t amount to a hill of beans.

  4. I think she probably doesn’t even know how to ride a motorcycle!! and if she is on a bike it would be bitch. I mean that in a positive way…Be safe, ride hard!

  5. She’s so young she can’t even have a driving licence…

  6. She’s on the back of the bike! Advertisers need to grasp that women ride too (and not on the back).

  7. She looks Twelve years old…..Too skinny to Ride at any Speed over Twenty Miles an Hour….Really??-High heels??…….And Look Closer, She has on ear rings That hang down to her collar, either Rip Off her ears in the Wind, or When/and if She Takes off Her helmet………….

What do you think?
