Watch Parts Motorcycles

What's an avid watch collection (yes, they exist) to do when he realizes that his hobby just isn't enough? Overcoming the shock that watch collecting could get dull was probably the easy part, but what happened next was a stroke of brilliance. Watch Parts Motorcycles, based in Toronto, Canada, has spent hundreds if not thousands of hours building handmade miniature motorcycle models out of thousands of parts from hundreds of watches.

Honda CB650

Honda CB650 Project

Yesterday, on a bit of an impulse, I dove into a world I know NOTHING about. The 70s and 80s UJM restoration / customization / coolalization world. On a bit of whim (read: I'm ridiculously impulsive), I sold my beloved 2005 Suzuki Boulevard M50. It simply wasn't seeing enough highway miles, and in the city, my KYMCO Venox 250 trumps all other motorcycles. Still, wanting something affordable, with a little more horsepower, and perhaps a little caught up in the Toronto cafe racer scene and the kustom kraze, I decided to jump on the opportunity to pick up a 1979 Honda CB650 for $800 with dreams of restoring her to her former greatness... or at least having one sweet ride!

5 Years Riding Motorcycles

Five Years of Motorcycling

Five years ago today I purchased my first bike, a 2005 Derbi Atlantis 50cc two-stroke scooter. I bought it from a so-called “scooter dealership” (read: glorified clothing store with a service garage). They sold me a helmetthat was far too big, and couldn’t have be bothered to show me the controls to my new scooter after they handed me the key. That is to say, five years ago today is the day of my first two wheeled accident, about 10 feet down the alleyway from the first place I ever fired up a bike.

We’ve all been down this same, long road of learning. This short story looks back on how quickly motorcycling can become a way of life.

Pink Motorcycle Gear

Sitting on a sunny patch of grass we saw her, in her highlighter pink gear. She climbed off after parking awkwardly. Her gear and her bike looked like they were either impeccably well kept, or hadn’t seen much road. I looked back to our helmets and bikes. They were stained, scratched and splattered. They were seasoned vets. Even my ex’s gear showed all the wear of many happy roads together. Their beauty was in their miles, not in their parking lot grassy hillside appeal.

My ex rolled her eyes as the girl left her bike. “I hate pink,” she declared.

As a female motorcyclist, what does pink gear mean to you?

I decided to do a little survey of some of my female motorcyclist blogging friends from across the world. The question was: "As a female motorcyclist, what does pink gear mean to you?". The results were as diverse as the women who wrote in.
