“What are the best websites for motorcyclists?” she asked me. She had been bitten by the bug. The bug that turns the average human into a motorcycle-obsessed freak, looking to learn as much valuable information about motorcycling as she could, ...Read More »
Consider this a "State of the Union Address" for anyone who's interested / curious in what's happening around YouMotorcycle.
Americans Motorcyclists, we're going to cover four main subjects:
1) Direction for Spring
2) Upcoming Reviews
3) Web Store
4) Other News
Small motorcycle initiatives are hard work. Despite being a hobby, YouMotorcycle and bikerMetric serve up 165,000 page views to over 70,000 motorcyclists every month. The community and friends help out on occasion, but whenever an advertiser steps up and steps in to throw us a few bucks the support goes a long way. The money helps us cover the bills associated with hosting and bandwidth, it lets us buy better plugins or pay for help with programming to make the site experience better for visitors. Thank you to everyone who supports the site, whether you enjoyed a post and shared it on Facebook or Twitter (we love that), letting us know about a typo you found (it happens), or coming on as a sponsor as AMPP did.Read More »
Happy Thanksgiving to all of our visitors from Canada!
For those who've noticed YouMotorcycle has been a little quiet lately, here's what we've been up to, how we're making the site better for you, and why.
Whenever I hear from people about YouMotorcycle they seem generally surprised and grateful for the information here and it's presentation on the site. Emails from total strangers leave me feeling flattered. Sure, some people complain as well, but every subculture has its stuck-in-the-past scooterista with all of the mirrors. There's one thing I hear whenever I talk to advertisers though. They almost unanimously mention YouMotorcycle is a great looking site. I'm exploring Twitter a lot and trying to see who's interesting out there. I find a lot of motorcyclists out there with some really bike-tastic names and pictures. Much to my chagrin, many of them end up tweeting about their dinner, their dog, their children, and Sons of Anarchy. Now, I like the TV show as much anyone, although not as much as many of you, but come on!
Sitting on a sunny patch of grass we saw her, in her highlighter pink gear. She climbed off after parking awkwardly. Her gear and her bike looked like they were either impeccably well kept, or hadn’t seen much road. I looked back to our helmets and bikes. They were stained, scratched and splattered. They were seasoned vets. Even my ex’s gear showed all the wear of many happy roads together. Their beauty was in their miles, not in their parking lot grassy hillside appeal.
My ex rolled her eyes as the girl left her bike. “I hate pink,” she declared.
As a female motorcyclist, what does pink gear mean to you?
I decided to do a little survey of some of my female motorcyclist blogging friends from across the world. The question was: "As a female motorcyclist, what does pink gear mean to you?". The results were as diverse as the women who wrote in. Read More »
Some say advertisements have no place in a motorcycle blog. They say ads make a website "for-profit" and therefor inherently evil. I admire the critics who speak openly and honestly. There's another group who hide behind annonymous flagging, and I simply call them the Haters.
Guess what, Haters?
This one's for you!
Bright and early on February 1st I saw a tweet from motorcycle blogger FuzzyGalore: "Should i keep an eye out for your daily posts now that it's February?!" She asked. I saw a challenging curve ahead. What I should've said, was "No." Instead, I decided to hit the curve full throttle, 'cause Mama raised a special kind of idiot!Read More »
